Rex Ryan refuses to say if Jets will start Greg McElroy or Mark Sanchez next week

The Jets have a quarterback controversy, sort of.

The New York Jets sent Mark Sanchez to the bench and replaced him with backup Greg McElroy in the third quarter of Sunday's 7-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The question of who will be under center next week when the Jets travel to Jacksonville is still up in the air, as head coach Rex Ryan refused to name a starter following his team's win on Sunday.

Sanchez has struggled all season. He leads the NFL with 10 fumbles, and the three interceptions that got him benched on Sunday give him 13 for the season, compared to just 12 touchdowns. There have been calls for the Jets to bench Sanchez since early in the season; however, much of the quarterback controversy has revolved around Tim Tebow.

The presence of Tebow on the roster along with McElroy and Sanchez clouds the picture even more. Tebow was inactive this week as he recovered from two fractured ribs.

McElroy finished Sunday’s game 5-for-7 with 29 yards and a touchdown. He also fumbled once.

Expect it to be a very long time until Ryan names his starting quarterback, and even then the controversy is likely to continue.
