Report: Jets owner prefers Greg McElroy over Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez

Three players are in the mix to start Sunday for the New York Jets, and owner Woody Johnson would rather see Greg McElroy play than Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson would prefer that Greg McElroy start at quarterback for his team this week although the football minds in his front office seem to disagree, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Mehta reports that the owner of the team would rather see McElroy start over Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow after his performance in relief of Sanchez on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, although general manager Mike Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano are still in the Sanchez camp. Rex Ryan hasn't made his opinions on the topic public yet, leaving all three players in the mix.

Sanchez has been the starter for the past four seasons and Tebow was acquired in the offseason to back up Sanchez, play sparingly in packages designed for him, and cause every media member to speculate when he would play. The situation got more intriguing on Sunday when Sanchez was benched after throwing three interceptions, only to see the second-year McElroy out of Alabama lead the Jets on a touchdown drive to give them their only a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Sanchez would be benched due to his play, as he was on Sunday, while Tebow is still questionable to play with a pair of broken ribs.
