Chargers vs. Jets: San Diego wins meaningless game in New York

McElroy didn’t look awful - he completed 14 of 24 passes for 185 yards - but he threw no touchdowns and a pick. But it wouldn’t be enough: the team had the opportunity to win after entering the half with a lead, but only managed three points in the second half as San Diego pulled away with the win. For Jets blog Gang Green Nation, the biggest problem was offensive line play, but McElroy’s performance wasn’t a good one. They wrote after the loss that the quarterback has a ceiling of being a second-stringer:

With both teams struggling for a good portion of the season, this game is a bit of a toss-up to pick. SB Nation’s Joel Thorman is predicting the Jets will eke out a 17-16 win. All three Yahoo! Sports experts have picked the Jets. Four of the six ESPN experts that have picked so far have picked the Jets, but the Accuscore prediction machine has gone with the Chargers. Finally, five of the eight experts from CBS Sports have picked the Chargers.

The over/under is currently set at 40.5. Given both teams’ futility of late, that mark could be a bit lofty.
