Marc Ross a top candidate for Panthers’ GM job, per report

The Giants’ director of college scouting is the top candidate for the Panthers’ general manager job, according to reports.

Marc Ross, New York Giants' director of college scouting, has emerged as the leading candidate to be named the Carolina Panthers general manager, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting.

Ross has been a target of other GM positions, as last year he was interviewed by the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears. However, despite other teams interest, he stayed with the Giants for his fifth season.

Since 2008, Ross has overseen the Giants' draft and helped select defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham.

Before taking the job with the Giants, Ross was a national college scout with the Buffalo Bills.

In late October, the Panthers relieved Marty Hurney of his general manager duties and since then have been looking for a replacement.

Hurney had been a part of Carolina’s personnel department since 1998 and was promoted to GM in 2002. He helped the Panthers reach the 2003 Super Bowl; however, since then he struggled to help rebuild the franchise.
