New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan denied a report by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that stated he would prefer to be fired if team owner Woody Johnson was unwilling to make changes to the offense prior to next season.

Published on Friday morning, Mehta reports that Ryan was likely interested in having offensive coordinator Tony Sparano relieved of his duties in favor of someone else. While stating that Ryan was interested in remaining with the team, Mehta reports that if Johnson was unwilling to make changes, Ryan would not quit but would want to be fired.

In his press conference on Friday afternoon, Ryan denied the report and expressed his desire to stay with the team. Ryan also communicated that he was upset by the report and that he passionately expressed that to the team upon addressing them on Friday morning.

The head coach stated that upon learning of the report, he contacted Johnson in order to discuss it.

When asked about Sparano’s future and whether he wants him back, Ryan stated that he wouldn’t be speaking about anybody’s future.
