Steelers vs. Ravens, Week 13: ‘Sloppy offense’ to blame for Baltimore loss

A poor performance from Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens’ offense was key in a tough 23-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The Baltimore Ravens lost their first home game since 2010 when they fell to Charlie Batch and the Pittsburgh Steelers in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday. The Ravens led most of the game, but critical mistakes on both sides of the ball were key in the 23-20 loss.

Baltimore could not stop journeyman quarterback Charlie Batch late, but a huge offensive miscue by their own quarterback helped turn the tide. Joe Flacco's fourth quarter fumble was just one part of an ugly offensive performance, as noted by Zachary Beard of SB Nation's Ravens blog Baltimore Beatdown:

This game was a loss due to overall sloppy play on the offense, and was turned on its side with a fumble by Joe Flacco late in the game. The Ravens will just have to put this game behind them and come back for a win next week.

Flacco went just 16-of-34 passing for 188 yards with one touchdown and one interception to go along with the killer fumble. Baltimore managed just 288 total yards of offense.

While losing to a rival at home always stings, Beard and other Ravens fans are not all that concerned about the defeat. That's because Baltimore still holds a two-game lead in the AFC North. The Ravens can clinch a playoff berth next weekend with a win over the Washington Redskins.
