Jim Schwartz ‘lost control of the team’ says Lions player

One Detroit Lions player said that head coach Jim Schwratz “lost control of the team” this past season.

The Detroit Lions just wrapped up a 4-12 season and though reports of head coach Jim Schwartz being on the hot seat may be exaggerated, there are plenty of people that are unhappy with his performance this season. According to Mike Freeman of CBS Sports, one Lions player suggested that Schwartz "lost control of the team."

This player, who obviously was not named, said that the players were at fault first and foremost, but that Schwartz lost control of the team, and that they were undisciplined as a whole. Of course, the player went on to say that it would be “stupid” to fire Schwartz.

Detroit certainly looked like an undisciplined team this season, with multiple players getting in trouble off the field and even more of them getting in trouble on the field. The player quoted in the piece went on to say that everyone “needs to be accountable,” and that the coaches “need to punish guys more when they screw up.”

It’s unclear where the Lions will go from here with regards to their coaching staff, but it’s looking like Schwartz will remain at the helm. If he doesn’t get his team firmly under control, however, he may not last through another season like the one that’s just wrapped up for non-playoff teams.
