Andy Reid fired: Eagles players start pointing fingers

LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin both called out fellow teammates on Monday, following Andy Reid’s dismissal as head coach.

As was long expected, the Philadelphia Eagles relieved Andy Reid of his duties as head coach, after Reid guided the Eagles to a miserable 4-12 record in 2012 -- the worst mark in his 14-year career as Eagles head coach.

Philadelphia’s players were left wondering what exactly went wrong, and what ultimately led to Reid’s dismissal as head coach. According to CSN Philly, many Eagles put the blame on each other.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy was especially critical of some of his teammates, saying some of his teammates were "looking for excuses."

“I think guys made a lot of excuses,” said McCoy, who added that he felt “sorrow” for Reid. “Guys maybe weren’t playing up to par. Guys weren’t focusing enough. Guys making money and not putting out. Guys were looking for excuses.”

Coming into the 2011 season, many dubbed the Eagles the NFL's 'Dream Team,' just one year after the NBA's version was assembled in Miami. Philadelphia brought in many notable free agents, including Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin and Nnamdi Asomugha. Instead of a dream season in 2011, the Eagles finished a mediocre 8-8 -- but won their last four games, giving reason for optimism in 2012.

Unfortunately for Reid and the Eagles, the momentum from 2011’s late season run did not carry over in 2012, as the 2012 season constitutes the worst of Reid’s head coaching career.

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin mused that some of the new players "weren't Coach Reid guys."

Regardless of who deserves blame, Reid took the brunt of it -- and will now look for a new job.
