Cowboys tragedy: Details of Josh Brent, Jerry Brown fatal car accident emerge

Josh Brent failed a field sobriety test at the scene of a car accident that killed his teammate, Jerry Brown.

More details are surfacing about the tragic accident involving Josh Brent and Jerry Brown of the Dallas Cowboys. Brent was confirmed as the driver of a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the curb and flipped over, according to the Dallas Morning News. The vehicle came to rest in the middle of the road. Brown, who was not responsive when police arrived, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brent failed a sobriety test, as police relayed to Matthew Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. He was taken from the scene of the accident to a local hospital, where he had blood drawn. Watkins reports that he was later booked with a second degree felony charge.

Brent was charged with a DUI when he played at Illinois. The nose tackle pled guilty to misdemeanor DUI in 2009 and served time in a Champaign County Jail.

Brent and Brown were teammates in college at Illinois. Brown, a linebacker, was signed to the Cowboys practice squad in the middle of the 2012 season.
