Jets vs. Jaguars: Running backs carry New York to win

So what exactly is the Jets’ record this year in weeks that they have a three-way quarterback controversy?

Curiously, McElroy - the guy who led the Jets to a win last week - was inactive while Tebow was active, but Sanchez and company got the better of the Jags in a punt-filled game.

Despite missing Cromartie, the Jets maintain a 17-10 lead over the Jaguars late in the fourth quarter.

The rookie receiver was limited in practice this week with a knee injury and he was a game-time decision for Sunday’s visit to Jacksonville. Hill slipped while being interfered with and he stayed down on the field.

Hill has 21 catches for 252 yards this season. He has scored three touchdowns in 10 games.

Rex Ryan famously lost over 100 pounds (and good for him) by getting lap-band surgery. It appears that somebody might have loosened the band this morning and is ready for halftime snacks.

Quick, somebody get Rex some orange slices.

Fantasy Impact: Owens is essentially the Jaguars’ No. 4 running back -- Jalen Parmele was placed on injured reserve last month -- so it would be unfair to expect huge numbers. That said, Owens could be productive against a Jets defense that is giving up 4.3 yards per carry. He should see plenty of touches, because at this point the Jaguars have no one else.

Jones-Drew last played against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 21, when he had two carries for six yards. The Jaguars are 1-5 without their star running back this season.

For the Jaguars it’s one of the many reasons why the team is 2-10 and eliminated from the playoffs, but in the race for the No. 1 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. The Jets haven’t been quite as unfortunate and still have a chance to pull themselves into contention. To do so, though, the team will first have to go and take care of business in Jacksonville.

While McElroy threw only seven passes, he completed the only touchdown of the game and led the Jets to victory. It wasn’t enough to earn him a starting role against the Jaguars, although it doesn’t bode particularly well for Sanchez’s future with the team. What Sanchez needs is a performance similar to his last against the Jaguars when he completed over 70 percent of his passes in a 32-3 rout early in the 2011 season.

Ryan has been coy with the press this week about which of his three quarterbacks would get the nod behind center but, suffice to say, you’ll be hearing a lot about it on SportsCenter.

You know things are bad when you’re favored by two against a team with a 2-10 record and nearly everyone is picking you to lose.

The Jets are 2-3 on the road this year, while the Jaguars are 1-5 at home.
