Free Agent Paul Soliai May Not Return To Dolphins

Dolphins nose tackle Paul Soliai could be looking for a big payday, and it might come from elsewhere.

Coming off a 6-10 season in which they showed some signs of progress, the Miami Dolphins appear to be in pretty good shape heading into 2012 NFL free agency. Although 17 players will become some sort of free agent, there aren't too many glaring concerns. One exception is nose tackle Paul Soliai, who made the Pro Bowl game this year.

Miami Herald Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero doesn’t sound too optimistic about the chances of Soliali returning next year, suggesting the 28-year-old is liking looking for a big payday.

I have serious doubts Soliai will be coming back to the Dolphins based on the fact his agent David Canter is very aggressive and Soliai doesn’t intend to give the Dolphins any sort of hometown discount.

Looking at Soliai’s numbers would suggest losing him might not be the worst thing. He only broke into the starting lineup in 2010 and has made just 66 tackles and 2.0 sacks during that time. Like all good nose tackles, though, Soliai’s production doesn’t tell the whole story. He’s a big body, 6-foot-4 and 355 pounds, that often occupies multiple blockers. He’s not irreplaceable, but it would be a hole that needs filling.
