Jason Peters Injury: Ruptured Achilles Is Major Blow To Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles suffered a major blow earlier this week when LT Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles’ tendon, which could keep him out for the entire 2012 season.

The Philadelphia Eagles on Friday signed OT King Dunlap which led to some wondering if there was something wrong with one of their current offensive tackles. Unfortunately for Philly, there is. Starting LT Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles' tendon in his right leg earlier this week, which means Peters could end up missing the 2012 season for the Eagles. It's usually a 9-12 month recovery process and the season starts in September. He'll undergo surgery next week.

This is a big blow to the Eagles who lose a multi-year Pro Bowler on the left side, even with Michael Vick’s ability to escape pressure. Dunlap is nowhere near the player Peters is. This makes you wonder if the Eagles would consider moving up for one of the offensive tackles in the 2012 NFL draft.

Peters was acquired by the Eagles from the Buffalo Bills before the 2009 NFL draft in exchange for a first round draft choice and other late round picks.

The Eagles extended RT Todd Herremans earlier this year which was supposed to lock up their offensive tackles for the next few years.

Peters’ is three years into a six-year contract that will pay him $60 million.
