The Steelers have signed Charlie Batch to a one-year deal to back up Ben Roethlisberger, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Batch has spent the last seven seasons with Pittsburgh, and has proved to be a capable backup when forced into action. Last year he made four in-game appearances, going 14-for-25 passing for 208 yards and an interception.
Steelers Bring Back Charlie Batch
Charlie Batch will return for his eighth season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing a one-year contract with the team Monday.
Batch last started in 2010, pitching in with Dennis Dixon and Byron Leftwich at quarterback while Roethlisberger served a four-game suspension to start the regular season. Batch started two games, including a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which he led the Steelers to a 38-13 win on 12-for-17 passing for 186 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Steelers are now carrying four quarterbacks on their roster at the moment, with the additions of Troy Smith and Jarrod Johnson.
