The NFL offseason program continues. Teams are allowed to conduct minicamps for their rookies on one of the first two weekends after the 2012 NFL Draft, which means we have a handful of rookie minicamps coming up this weekend, with the rest to follow next weekend.
Colts, Redskins Among Those Starting Rookie Minicamps
NFL rookie minicamps are starting up this weekend for nine teams. The rest will follow next weekend.
Those teams with rookie minicamps starting this weekend include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings.
Of note in that group are the Colts and Redskins. That means we'll get an opportunity to see the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the draft, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, respectively. RGIII already wrote on Twitter that he's ready for his first practice.
First NFL Practice? Nice to meet you :) Can’t wait for the rest of our future dates, but I’m going to make sure each one counts
The NFL offseason program started in April for every team and that will continue into the end of the offseason program, which is the mandatory veteran minicamp in the middle of June for most teams.
The offseason program is basically a series of practices for the players. The first phase focuses on conditioning, the second phase focuses on on-field instruction and the third phase focuses on more traditional practices. The new CBA signed last August limits most contact in these practices.
