Cleveland Browns Have No Plans To Trade Colt McCoy ‘Right Now’ Says Mike Holmgren

The Cleveland Browns have no plans to trade quarterback Colt McCoy "right now,' said team president Mike Holmgren in remarks to the media on Thursday afternoon. Holmgren was non-committal all around on the issue of his team's quarterbacking situation.

Reports swirled following the draft that McCoy was on the trade block. The Browns used the 22nd pick of the first-round to select Brandon Weeden, a 28-year-old quarterback from Oklahoma State. The team also has veteran backup Seneca Wallace, who played for Holmgren during his days as head coach in Seattle.

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur hinted earlier in the month that Weeden could be named the starting quarterback ahead of training camp. Holmgren sounded a different tone on Thursday.

Given the Browns' history with McCoy, particularly their handling of his concussion last season in a game against the Steelers, and the decision to draft Weeden trade rumors have surrounded McCoy since the end of April.

Given Weeden’s age, McCoy’s track record as the starter and the desperation to start winning games in Cleveland, it would be a major upset if Weeden were not the starting quarterback in 2012.
