When Justin Blackmon Listening To Terrell Owens Is A Good Thing

The NFL Rookie Symposium was held on Thursday, providing an orientation of sorts for all the new players set to enter the league in the 2012 season. Current and former NFL players spoke to the rookies about what they can expect, but more importantly, what will be expected of them both on and off the field.

Two of the players who spoke at the Symposium were Terrell Owens and Adam Jones. Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that new Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon paid particular attention to what the two NFL veterans had to say about off-the-field issues.

“It’s powerful any time you have a player share something that happened bad for him they could have avoided,” Blackmon told me and co-host Vic Carucci on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Blackmon can certainly relate to hearing some NFL cautionary tales. The wideout was arrested in 2010 for a DUI while playing for the Oklahoma St. Cowboys and was arrested for another DUI earlier in June, leading some to wonder whether this will be indicative of his conduct as an NFL player.

Thanks to the Symposium, Blackmon now has a much better idea of the potential repercussions for his actions.
