The Kansas City Chiefs this offseason have worked out a handful of veteran free agent safeties including O.J. Atogwe, Yeremiah Bell and Abe Elam. On Monday, they confirmed that Elam has been signed. Terms of the contract weren't disclosed.
Chiefs Sign Free Agent Safety Abe Elam
The Chiefs, seeking safety help, signed veteran Abe Elam to a contract on Monday.

Elam is a veteran safety who started his career in 2005 as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. He spent the 2006 season with the Dallas Cowboys before moving onto the New York Jets for two seasons. He played under Romeo Crennel, then the Cleveland Browns head coach, in the 2009 season. Crennel now coaches the Chiefs. Elam returned to the Cowboys in the 2011 season. He has started 47 games in the last three years.
The Chiefs safety situation is in flux, with Eric Berry recovering from an ACL tear last year and Kendrick Lewis rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery, as well as a torn pec. Neither player is participating in Chiefs OTAs this offseason.
