Dashon Goldson Signs Franchise Tender, Will Report To 49ers Training Camp

It was an offseason of worry for San Francisco 49ers fans, but Thursday brought relief, as the team has announced that free safety Dashon Goldson has signed a one-year franchise tender to stay with the team.

With the move, worth just over $6 million, Goldson will report to camp Thursday with the rest of the team’s veterans.

As SB Nation's Niners Nation points out, it would have been interesting to see defensive backs C.J. Spillman and Trenton Robinson get more reps with the first team with Goldson not around, but it's far more important to have the all the starting defensive players in camp and on time on the heels of a strong 2011 season.

The one-year deal means that the team cannot try to sign Goldson, 27, to a long-term extension until after the 2012 season, something the Pro Bowl safety seems to be looking for that pays him well.

Last year, Goldson missed first two weeks of training camp before also signing a one-year deal to return to San Francisco, delivering with a career high six interceptions as the team advanced to the NFC Championship.
