Hybrid defensive end/linebacker Jyles Tucker has been cut from the Carolina Panthers after leaving training camp, the Charlotte Observer reports. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera did not say why Tucker left, only that it was necessary.
Jyles Tucker Cut After Leaving Panthers Training Camp
“It was something he had to. So we’ll leave it at that and go from there,” Rivera said Monday. “It was strictly a personal instance. There’s nothing bad, nothing like that.”
Tucker was expected to provide the Panthers some depth and versatility whenever the defense lined up in a 3-4 alignment. The 28-year-old had played for Rivera in San Diego, and signed with Carolina on a one-year, $700,000 veteran’s minimum contract during the offseason. Tucker spent last season out of the league, and had reportedly been considering retirement before showing up at camp.
The Panthers have not yet announced a corresponding roster move.
