Mike Kafka will miss two to three weeks after fracturing his non-throwing hand during the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. With Kafka, out, rookie Nick Foles will assume backup duties, with Trent Edwards sliding up into the No. 3 slot.
Eagles Backup QB Mike Kafka Breaks Hand, Out 2-3 Weeks
Mike Kafka will miss two to three weeks after fracturing his non-throwing hand during the Eagles’ preseason opener Thursday. Rookie Nick Foles now assumes the team’s top backup spot behind Michael Vick.

Kafka was having a rough outing against the Steelers before he had his hand stepped on. He went 5-for-9 for 31 yards and an interception. He will have a tough time getting back in rhythm now, but at least Kafka can still participate in 7-on-7 drills during practice. Unfortunately, Kafka is on the cusp of making the team at the moment. If he can’t participate in preseason, he could find himself looking for a new team soon.
Foles now assumes a lot more pressure heading into his first NFL season, considering Michael Vick's recent injury problems.
