Packers Sign Cedric Benson, According To Report

The Green Bay Packers have had quite a few injury issues thus far in training camp, but they made a solid move to shore up their offensive backfield on Sunday afternoon. With projected starter James Starks week-to-week with turf toe and top backup Alex Green still on a snap count, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Packers have signed former Cincinnati Bengals running back Cedric Benson.

The 29-year-old running back has experience playing in the NFC North, as he started his career with the Chicago Bears. Benson recently completed a four-year stint with the Bengals, culminating in 1,067 yards rushing as a 15-game starter last season.

There's been no indication as to what role Benson will play for the Packers considering how recent the signing is, but with projected starter Starks hobbled, Green still recovering from last year's torn ACL and fellow running backs Brandon Saine and Du`ane Bennett out due to injuries of their own, it wouldn't be crazy to see Benson in the mix as a potential Packers starter.
