Viking Matt Kalil Leaves Practice With Thumb Injury

Minnesota Vikings' left tackle Matt Kalil left practice on Monday with an apparent injury to his right thumb. After he departed with a team trainer, Charlie Johnson filled in at tackle for the first team.

Fans in attendance at Minnesota State were relieved to see Kalil return later that day with his thumb taped. An MRI revealed no damage to Kalil’s right thumb, and he finished practiced with the first team.

Vikings fans are expecting big things out of Kalil this season, after the team used the fourth overall selection to grab the USC lineman in this year’s NFL draft.

If something were to happen to Kalil, it seems that Johnson would be his backup. Although it was not his primary position, Johnson started all 16 games at left tackle last year for the Vikings. Left tackle was a problem for the Vikes last year after they released Bryant McKinnie during training camp.
