The New York Giants are expected to come to terms on a contract with free agent defensive tackle Marcus Thomas, according to a report by Mike Garafolo on nj.com. Citing a source close to the situation, Thomas is going to be signed by the Giants in the near future pending his ability to pass a physical.

The person said Thomas had a very good workout this morning and also impressed the team during his meetings.

The 26-year-old University of Florida product was chosen by the Denver Broncos with the No. 121 overall selection in the 2007 NFL Entry Draft.

Following the 2011 season, the 6-foot-3, 316 pound free agent expected to receive a sizable offer from the Broncos to stay in Denver. Upon rejecting a one-year deal, the organization gave away Thomas’ jersey number, marking the end of his tenure with the team.

Considering the assumed season-ending injury suffered by Shaun Rogers on Monday, the Giants have a need for a defensive tackle and could use the services of Thomas.

To this point in his career, he has appeared in 76 games (34 starts, including 11 out of 12 games in 2011) and has registered 147 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack.
