Brandon Meriweather Injury: Redskins Safety Helped Off The Field

On a play that turned into a touchdown for the Chicago Bears as Michael Bush ran 8 yards into the end zone for his second score of the day, Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was helped off the field by two people after an injury to his left knee.

The Redskins later announced via Twitter that the injury would end the safety’s night as he would not be returning to Saturday’s game at any point in time. According to an on-air report from CSN Washington, it was a sprained knee for Meriweather, although the severity of the sprain is not yet known.

Meriweather was a 2007 first round selection of the New England Patriots before being released by the team just prior to the 2011 season. He spent the 2011 year with the Chicago Bears before signing a two-year, $6 million contract with the Redskins in March 2012.
