Injuries, Position Battles Highlight Saturday’s NFL Preseason Action

After the game, Crennel was blunt and direct about the showing on both sides of the ball, but specifically said the defense “couldn’t stop anybody.” Via Joel Thorman at Arrowhead Pride:

Crennel, who was known as a player’s coach in Cleveland, certainly knows when a hard critique is warranted. While the game was far from a catastrophe, he didn’t see the need for much positive spin.

After a strong college career at San Diego State, Brown was drafted by the Charges in the third round of the 2011 draft. In the 2011 season, he played in 14 games for the Bolts and amassed 329 yards on 19 receptions.

Orakpo was attempting to make a tackle in the first quarter before hurting himself and staying down for several moments. Eventually, he left the field with the training staff and didn’t return to the game at any point.

The injury is worrisome especially because it occurred to the same pectoral muscle that required surgery following last years season finale.

A second round pick for the 49ers int he 2012 NFL Draft, James had put up 19 yards on four carries before being injured.

The 49ers lost the game 20-9 to the Texans.

The St. Louis Rams beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-17 on Saturday night in the second preseason game for both teams.

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford was 6-of-9 for 102 yards and two touchdowns, easing concerns about his injured ankle, while Steven Jackson would add 49 yards on the ground on seven carries.

James was a second round pick of the 49ers in the 2012 NFL Draft after a productive collegiate career that included being unanimously named to the 2010 All-American Team.

The second year receiver out of San Diego State had his left foot elevated while on the cart, according to CBS’ Clark Judge. It appeared that Brown got his foot caught under a tackler on the play in question.

Brown is currently being evaluated by the Chargers medical staff and is out for the remainder of the game.Before his injury, Brown had two catches for 31 yards on the night.

Quick had three receptions for 20 yards as part of the Rams’ sudden explosion of offense in the Edward Jones Dome before leaving with the injury. Early in the fourth quarter, the Rams lead the Chiefs 31-10 on the strength of quarterback efficiency and ball safety.

Stephen Jackson rushed for 49 yards on seven carries early in the game for the Rams before departing to the bench for the night.

Another game, another touchdown return for Trindon Hollday.

So which one was better? I gotta go with the one last week.

The Giants were hardly prolific offensively, racking up only 232 yards, but they had short fields to work with all night thanks to an even more anemic Jets offense that racked up only 148 yards. Both teams were woeful on third downs, going a combined 3-for-25, and each completed 14-of-25 passing attempts.

Sanchez was accurate (9-for-11 passing) but only threw for 59 yards and took three sacks in addition to his pick-six. Tebow didn’t contribute much with his arm or legs, completing only 5-of-14 passes for 69 yards while gaining five yards on two rushing attempts. He was sacked four times.

Hardin would stay down on the field for a while and had to be removed on a stretcher. He raised his arms on the stretcher, eliciting cheers from the crowd.

Hardin was taken by the Bears in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft despite missing the entirety of his senior season at Oregon State in 2011. He had 47 tackles and a sack for the Beavers as a junior in 2010.

Watch where the Redskins defendes are when he starts his return. It looks like there’s no chance for a lengthy return. But somehow he jukes at least three Redskins defenders to break free.

He didn’t get both feet in, but whatever. This catch by Dez Bryant is pretty damn cool. And by pretty damn cool, I mean it’s amazing.

That’s one hand and a neat contortion to try and tap the toes. Seriously, it’s incredible.

The football gods are funny beings. Weird things happen during games -- even preseason -- that are just too ironic to pass up. Like Will Hill sacking Tim Tebow. Gator on Gator crime has never been so funny.

The Redskins later announced via Twitter that the injury would end the safety’s night as he would not be returning to Saturday’s game at any point in time. According to an on-air report from CSN Washington, it was a sprained knee for Meriweather, although the severity of the sprain is not yet known.

Newly acquired San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs went down with what appears to be a serious left knee injury in the first quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game against the Houston Texans.

The injury occurred on Jacobs’ first carry of the game, an eight yard run. His left knee appeared to collide with cornerback Kareem Jackson’s helmet/shoulder pad area and Jacobs remained down on the field for several minutes.
