The Minnesota Vikings have one of the better pass rushers in the NFL in Jared Allen, but the team is concerned that he may have played too many snaps during the 2011 NFL season. The Vikings planned on putting Allen on a "pitch count" last season, but he wound up playing nearly every snap on defense.
Vikings To Reduce Snaps For Jared Allen
In 2012 however, the Vikings plan to make sure to keep Allen fresh.
“We’re going to make a concerted effort to try to get him off the field at times,” Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier told reporters Thursday. “Without hurting the team. We don’t want to hurt the team. He’s our best pass rusher, one of the best in the NFL.”
Allen finished 2011 with 22 sacks on the season, just a half-sack short of tying the NFL’s all-time single-season record. Allen of course would rather skip out on practice reps than game reps.
