Sean Spence Injury: Steelers Linebacker May Have Torn ACL, LCL

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Sean Spence may have a torn ACL and LCL, along with a dislocated kneecap, according to reports.

The injuries were suffered in Pittsburgh's 17-16 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night, when the third round draft pick out of the University of Miami (FL) was blocked from the side in pursuit of quarterback Jimmy Clausen and had his left leg slide underneath him in a bad-looking fashion, writes Michael David Smith at ProFootballTalk. Spence was then carted off the field.

If the diagnoses of his leg are correct, it is believed that Spence could be placed on injured reserve, where he would have to look towards rehabbing for the 2013 season. The 5-foot-11, 231-pound linebacker had five total tackles, including one for a loss, on Thursday night before leaving the game. He was expected to bolster an aging Steeler defense in need of fresh legs in the linebacking corps.
