The Miami Dolphins have made another trade, this time sending backup center Ryan Cook to the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN's Calvin Watkins on Twitter. Cook got the start in Wednesday's fourth and final preseason game for Miami against the team he is now been traded to. He made the start due to Miami resting their starters, and was actually third on their depth chart behind second-year player Mike Pouncey and UDFA Josh Samuda.
Cowboys, Dolphins Make A Trade
The Miami Dolphins have made another trade, sending backup center Ryan Cook to the Dallas Cowboys.
SB Nation’s Dolphins blog, The Phinsider, had a post about the trade. They suggest that the Dolphins will receiver a seventh-round pick for Cook, putting them at 10 picks for the 2013 NFL Draft. It’s likely that Cook would have been cut prior to the 9:00 p.m. ET roster deadline on Friday. Teams have to trim their rosters down to the official 53-man limit by that point and Cook has fallen too far back on the depth chart.
Dallas likely wanted to ensure they didn't have to compete with another team in signing Cook after some-400 players are released on Friday. Cook is entering his seventh year in the NFL, and he appeared in seven games with the Dolphins a season ago. He started 40 games for the Minnesota Vikings, a team he spent his first six seasons in the league with.
