The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released their first depth chart of the year and LeGarrette Blount, not Doug Martin, sits atop the running back depth chart. Blount is the incumbent, rushing for 781 yards last year, while Martin is the rookie, a first-round pick by the Bucs in April.
Bucs Depth Chart: LeGarrette Blount Over Doug Martin For Now
Martin has looked sharp early on and some expect him to shoulder the majority of the load. For now, though, Blount remains the top option on the depth chart. Look for the coaching staff to give these two plenty of touches in the preseason to determine who will be carrying the load.
SB Nation’s Bucs Nation writes that Blount over Martin “appears to be running counter to everything we’ve heard out of training camp, where Martin has consistently taken the majority of first-team reps and has led the way in most individual drills.”
In reality, they’ll likely be sharing carries throughout the season. Greg Schiano comes across as an old school coach so perhaps keeping the rookie off the first team is a motivational tool.
The Bucs are setting themselves up for what could be a solid season, especially on the ground. With the addition of Carl Nicks, they have a good offensive line across the board. Add in Vincent Jackson and this offense should be much better.
