NFL Injury Report: NFC West Teams May Be Without Key Contributors

The Cardinals, Rams and Seahawks had important players all suffer potentially major injuries on Sunday.

The NFC West had a solid day on Sunday, with the San Francisco 49ers defeating the Green Bay Packers, the St. Louis Rams sticking with the Detroit Lions and the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks taking each other down to the wire. But all was far from well on the injury front.

Let's start with the one team that escaped Sunday's game without a major injury. The Niners entered their Week 1 matchup without key offensive role players Ted Ginn and Brandon Jacobs but left Green Bay without adding anyone notable to the injury report. The division's three other teams, though, were not as lucky.

In Detroit, Rams left tackle Rodger Saffold was removed from the field in a stretcher and later taken to a hospital with a neck injury. St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters after the game that Saffold was "conscious" and "alert," but it's fair to assume that he is out indefinitely.

In Arizona, Cardinals' starting quarterback John Skelton was carted off the field with an ankle injury. The severity of the injury has yet to be revealed, but Kevin Kolb, who threw the game-winning touchdown pass on Sunday, may have to start in at least the next game. Also in the desert, Seahawks' left tackle Russell Okung had to leave the game on Seattle's last drive after injuring his knee. The Seahawks have yet to elaborate on the severity of the injury.
