Jets Vs. Steelers Game Recap: Ben Roethlisberger A Standout In Pittsbugh Victory

James Dator

Ben Roethlisberger was too much for the New York Jets to handle, as the Steelers quarterback finished the game 24-for-31, 275 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-to-10 victory. The story wasn't as successful for the New York Jets, as an offense that hung over 40 points on the Buffalo Bills last week were battered in Pittsburgh as they managed just 219 total yards.

Shonn Greene left the game in the first half due to a helmet-to-helmet hit with Ryan Mundy, and while he returned at the start of the third quarter he wasn't the offensive spark the Jets needed as he finished with 23 yards on 11 carries.

The Steelers running game didn't fair much better, but it was the receiving tandem of Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown that proved to be too much for New York's secondary, sans Darrelle Revis. They combined for 153 yards and proved to be the difference makers on the day.

Defensively it was the Steelers secondary who really shone, as they kept Santonio Holmes to just 25 yards receiving, and prevented Mark Sanchez from getting any more than 113 yards passing on 24 attempts. For the Jets, linebacker Garrett McIntyre had a great game, as the inside linebacker finished with five tackles, and two sacks.

An overall mediocre offensive game kept their from being any fantasy standouts, but Roethlisberger came the closest, with Mike Wallace’s 74 yards and a TD behind him.

Pittsburgh managed to cover the 6.5 pt spread with their 17 point victory, while the under of 40+ from all outlets was the way to go.

The two injuries to watch are those of RB Shonn Greene, and FB John Conner, both of whom were taken out of the game on Sunday. It remains to be seen if Greene is okay from his head injury, and we don't have an update on Connor's injury, which is believed to be an aggravation of an earlier MCL injury. In his absence, second year UDFA Nick Bellore is the fullback.

Next week the Steelers head to Oakland to face the Raiders, while the Jets remain on the road to take out the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium.
