Aaron Hernandez Injury Update: Could Be 6-Week Timetable

The New England Patriots' famed two tight-end package took a major blow Sunday when Aaron Hernandez left the game with an ankle injury during the Pats' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Now, the news appears to get worse for the Patriots, as Pro Football Talk is reporting that Hernandez could miss up to six weeks with the ailment.

PFT’s Mike Florio has developed a well-earned reputation for running with a single, anonymous source and being burned with misinformation. But when the injury occurred, NFL.com’s Albert Breer reported it was a high-ankle sprain, which always have an indefinite, but long, timetable.

Hernandez's injury would figure to open up even more looks for record-breaking tight end Rob Gronkowski, as well as wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker. At the same time. it's a big hindrance to the Patriots, who love using Gronkowski and Hernandez at the same time to create matchup nightmares for opposing defenses. Hernandez's absence will be even more scrutinized if the Pats have more games that end like the Cardinals debacle.
