Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin believes that a quarterback's stature as a franchise player is solely determined by the amount of Super Bowl championships he has collected.

In a recent interview on 102.3 The Fan in Denver, Tomlin stated that there aren’t many signal callers who should be labeled as franchise quarterbacks and that the term is thrown around far too loosely. The reason that the Steelers head coach believes he is able to make this distinction is because he has one in the form of two-time Super Bowl champion, Ben Rothelisberger.
“Obviously he’s our franchise quarterback and that’s a term that’s kind of become cliche in the NFL. I don’t believe there’s as many franchise quarterbacks as people like to talk about. I believe that we have one and obviously those guys are measured by Lombardis. That’s what he has the desire to do and that’s what we’re focused on this year.”
The Steelers will begin the regular season on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
