Redskins Leave Door Open On Re-Signing Chris Cooley

Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen stated on Friday afternoon that the team would be willing to re-sign free agent tight end Chris Cooley.

Released on Aug. 28, Cooley was previously the longest tenured member on the team, spending eight years in Washington after being selected with the No. 81 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. In an emotional address to the media that same day, Cooley stated that he could not imagine playing for any other franchise besides the Redskins, hinting that he was contemplating retirement.

Head coach Mike Shanahan stated that he believed Cooley was healthy enough to play in the NFL this upcoming season, despite only playing five games in 2011 due to injuries.

In 108 career games, the 30-year-old Utah State product has recorded 428 receptions for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns.
