NFL playoffs 2013: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning chasing history

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Bill Belichick can inch closer toward playoff history this weekend.

Three NFL legends can continue to etch their names into the league's record books this weekend, as Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning can inch closer to playoff milestones with strong performances in the NFL's Divisional Round this weekend.

Brady is currently tied with his childhood idol, Joe Montana, for most all-time playoff wins by a starting quarterback with 16. Brady's current record stands at 16-6, and a win over the Texans on Sunday would break the tie with Montana, whose career playoff record stands at 16-7.

That's not the only playoff record New England's quarterback has in his sights. Brady can inch closer toward the career-playoff touchdown record with a strong performance against the Texans. Brady currently ranks third all-time with 38, trailing only Montana (45) and Brett Favre (44).

Like his quarterback, Belichick can also inch closer to setting his own all-time playoff record this weekend. Belichick currently owns a 17-7 playoff record -- tied with Joe Gibbs for third all-time. Belichick trails only Don Shula and Tom Landry for playoff wins -- and if the Patriots can manage to win Super Bowl XLVII, Belichick will tie Landry for most all-time with 20.

Brady’s long-time nemesis Peyton Manning will also close in on playoff milestones this weekend. Manning currently ranks third all-time with 5,389 postseason yards. Like Brady, Manning trails both Montana (5,772) and Favre (5,855) for first all-time. Barring a complete shredding of Baltimore’s secondary this weekend, Manning will have to wait at least another playoff game to set history.

Manning could also find himself making history for the wrong reasons this weekend. If the Ravens upset the Broncos, Manning will tie Favre for most all-time playoff losses with 11. Manning's playoff record currently stands at 9-10.
