AFC Championship 2013, Ravens vs. Patriots: Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs nearing records

The Ravens have plenty of veterans on their defense, and a couple of them are close to some playoff records.

Terrell Suggs and Ed Reed have been in many playoff battles during their time in Baltimore, and both have performed under the pressure and scrutiny that comes with the postseason. They've done so well that each is nearing an all-time postseason record as they prepare to face New England in the 2013 AFC Championship.

Suggs recorded his fourth-career multi-sack postseason game on Sunday when he took down Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning twice in the backfield. That tied him with the record of four set by Pittsburgh's Lamarr Woodley. It's important to remember that sacks weren't an NFL statistic until 1982.

In addition to the multi-sack game record, Suggs is also moving up the list for total postseason sacks. He has recorded 12 in just 13 playoff games, good for third behind Bruce Smith (14.5) and Willie McGinest (16).

It wouldn't take much to guess which record Ed Reed is nearing. He has eight career playoff interceptions, just one behind a three-way tie for the record set by Ronnie Lott, Bill Simpson, and Charlie Waters. He could set or break that record with a big performance against the Patriots on Sunday.

If both are able to move up their record lists, that would bode well for the Ravens.
