Chip Kelly contract: Eagles coach among 10 highest paid in NFL

The Eagles and Chip Kelly reportedly agree to a five-year, $32.5-million deal for the former Oregon Ducks coach.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Chip Kelly have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $32.5-million deal to with the former Oregon Ducks coach, making Kelly one of the 10 highest-paid NFL coaches.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal on Sunday afternoon, saying the Eagles would pay Kelly an average of $6.5 million per year to helm the team that went 4-12 in 2012. Kelly, after reportedly deciding to stay with Oregon, was hired by the Eagles earlier this week. Kelly was introduced as the Eagles head coach on Thursday.

Kelly's contract strongly resembles the contract Pete Carroll signed with the Seattle Seahawks when he left the USC Trojans for Seattle after the end of the 2009 college football season. Carroll also received a five-year deal for nearly $33 million.

Kelly and Carroll both trail New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton ($8 million annually) and New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick (just under $8 million), who reportedly are the first and second highest paid coaches in the NFL, repsectively. Exact contract terms are often secretive among NFL coaches contracts.

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan reportedly makes $7 million per year, and New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin makes just more than $6.5 million per year, which would place him just ahead of Kelly.

In four years at Oregon, Kelly compiled a 46-7 record and led the Ducks to a 12-1 record in 2012.
