Eagles coaching rumors: Giants’ Jim Herrmann withdraws from DC consideration

The Eagles will have to look elsewhere for a new defensive coordinator. Jim Herrmann is sticking with the Giants.

Jim Herrmann has informed the Philadelphia Eagles that he will remove himself from consideration for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Instead, he will remain with the New York Giants for the 2013 season.

Herrmann interviewed with the Eagles this past Saturday, but has already decided that he’s not interested in making this move within the NFC East. Philadelphia will continue searching for a defensive coordinator after Todd Bowles left the picture upon Chip Kelly’s arrival.

After coaching with the Jets for three season, Herrmann made the switch to the other New York franchise in 2009. He has been the Giants linebackers coach for the past four seasons.

Rumors continue to surround the Eagles coaching search. Kelly was reportedly considering Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart for the job recently. Both run 3-4 defenses and have seen plenty of success in the SEC. Despite this interest, though, interviews haven’t been set up for either.
