NFL Free Agency 2013: Jake Long reportedly seeking at least $10 million annually

The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins LT Jake Long is looking for at least $10 million a year in his new contract. Will Miami be willing to pay him that much?

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long is inching closer to free agency, and early reports suggest that his re-negotations with the team aren't going well.

According to the Miami Herald, Long is reportedly seeking at least $10 million a year, and the Dolphins are “pessimistic” about their chances to re-sign him. The Herald also reported earlier that Miami made a low-ball offer of $6-7 million, which Long scoffed at.

Long was drafted No. 1 overall by the Dolphins in 2008. He played at a high level for the team, but his production has fallen off in the past two years thanks to injuries. He’s turning 28 in May, and the Dolphins are clearly hesitant to re-sign him at his current price tag.

It seems more and more likely that Long will test the open market in March. At this point, the question is less about his chances of staying in Miami and more about which teams would be willing to pay him what he’s asking for.
