Doug Marrone rumors: Browns interview Syracuse coach Thursday, according to report

The Cleveland Browns will reportedly interview Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone on Thursday.

Following an 8-5 campaign this past year with the Syracuse Orange, head coach Doug Marrone is set to interview for the Cleveland Browns' vacant head coaching position on Thursday, according to Tom Reed of the Plain Dealer.

The 48-year-old Marrone has compiled a 25-25 record over four seasons at Syracuse, and brings a solid amount of pro experience after a two-year stint as offensive coordinator with the Saints and a three-year gig as offensive line coach with the Jets. Marrone has also scheduled an interview with the Buffalo Bills, but he is still viewed as a dark horse candidate to leave college due to his affinity for Syracuse's program as a former player.

After wrapping up Marrone’s visit with the organization on Thursday, renowned Oregon coach Chip Kelly will fly in for his official interview with the Browns on Friday. Kelly represents arguably the biggest name on Cleveland’s radar to schedule an interview thus far, and he could represent the exact type of top-end hire for which team CEO Joe Banner has been clamoring. Marrone and Kelly are each firmly in the mix for both the Cleveland and Buffalo jobs, but only time will tell if the budding Syracuse coach opts to return to the pro ranks.
