Joe Webb ‘likely’ to start for Vikings, according to report

There’s now reports that Joe Webb is “likely” to start for the Minnesota Vikings in lieu of Christian Ponder, who has bursitis.

The Minnesota Vikings could be going with backup quarterback Joe Webb against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. According to Dan Wiederer or the Star Tribune on Twitter, it's "looking more likely" that Webb will start, and that the Vikings are "much closer to Plan B."

Christian Ponder is dealing with bursitis in his throwing arm, and fluid might need to be drained before the game. The injury has been bothering Ponder all week, but many expected it to subside prior to the 8 p.m. ET wildcard playoff game.

There were reports that Webb was taking more reps in practice than usual, and even other reports that the Vikings were worried about the lack of reps for Ponder as he tried to get over the injury.

It’s likely that Ponder will be working out prior to the game at Lambeau Field but, as this report indicates, Webb could be a real option to start. Albert Breer reports that Ponder will get treatment before the game and the team will go from there.
