Cardinals coaching search: Jay Gruden interview up next

Gruden could be a solid fit for the offensively-challenged Cardinals given his background.

The Arizona Cardinals have interviewed multiple candidates for their head coaching vacancy, including Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy earlier in the week. Next up for the Cardinals is Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden.

According to a tweet from Mark Dalton of the Cardinals’ media relations team, Arizona is expected to speak with Gruden about the position this week. The exact date of the interview is yet to be released.

Gruden, 45, is the brother of former NFL coach and current ESPN analyst John Gruden. After starring in the Arena Football League for a decade, Gruden has spent time coaching in both the United Football League and NFL. He was an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002-2008.

After a stint coaching in the UFL, Gruden was hired as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011. He has received much praise in Cincinnati for his work developing quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green.

The Cardinals fired former head coach Ken Whisenhunt on Dec. 31.
