Chris Clemons injury: Seahawks worry DE has ACL tear

Clemons’ injury won’t grab the headlines, but the loss will be detrimental to the Seahawks.

It wasn't all good news for the Seattle Seahawks as they celebrated their 24-14 win over the Redskins on Sunday night. Defensive end Chris Clemons, who led the team with 11.5 sacks this past season, went down with a knee injury mid-game and did not return.

Head coach Pete Carroll mentioned Clemons’ injury in the postgame news conference and acknowledged it could be a serious blow to their defense. According to a report from Pro Football Talk, one source said the team fears Clemons suffered an ACL injury.

The 31-year-old defensive end will undergo an MRI on Monday, which should determine his prognosis for the remainder of the postseason. After their wild card win, the Seahawks are set to face off with Matt Ryan and the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons next Sunday afternoon in the Georgia Dome.

In 2012, Clemons started all 16 games for Seattle. He recorded 31 tackles, assisted on nine more, forced three fumbles and recovered one of them. He joined the Seahawks in 2010 and has appeared in every regular season game since 2007.
