Michael Vick: ‘I’m excited about my future’

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick says he’s excited about his future.

USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick may not be known as such for much longer. In other words, Vick's future with the Eagles is up in the air. Still, that hasn't prevented Vick from being optimistic, as the veteran quarterback recently said that he's excited about his future, as noted by Philly.com.

Vick said that there is a lot of uncertainty, but that he’s not focusing on it right now. “I’m excited about my future. I’m going to train extremely hard to train to be the best quarterback I can be,” Vick said.

Vick is set to make $15.5 million in 2013, and will earn a $3 million roster bonus if he’s still there on Feb. 6. Not only did Vick miss six games this past season with multiple injures (he took several big hits this season due to his own propensity for scrambling and poor offensive line play), including a serious concussion, but the Eagles will have a new coaching staff.

Andy Reid, the head coach of the Eagles for the past 14 seasons, was fired following the season and has since joined the Kansas City Chiefs organization in the same capacity.

One thing going for Vick if he wants to remain in Philadelphia is the fact that the team doesn't necessarily have a replacement on the roster Nick Foles, a rookie out of Arizona, threw six touchdowns against four interceptions while completing 60.8 percent of his passes, but he's far from a sure thing.

Then again, the Eagles do have the No. 4 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, thanks to their 4-12 record. Drafting a quarterback that high is always a possibility when a team does that poorly, but it will come down to who’s available, of course.

If Vick does go elsewhere, there are a lot of teams with uncertainty at the quarterback position, though it is unlikely he will earn as much as his current deal with the Eagles.
