According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Buffalo Bills have hired Mike Pettine as their new defensive coordinator.

The Bills brought in a new defensive coordinator in Mike Pettine after he left one of their chief division rivals.

Pettine has spent the past four seasons with the New York Jets in the same position, helping to lead Darrelle Revis and co. to a pair of AFC Championship Games.
Buffalo and first-year head coach Doug Marrone get a hard-nosed coach in Pettine, who will have plenty of talent to work with in his new job. The Bills woefully underperformed on defense last season, finishing 31st against the run and 22nd in total defense.
It will be interesting to see what defensive style Buffalo has in 2013. Pettine has always been a 3-4 man going back to his days as an assistant under Rex Ryan and Brian Billick in Baltimore. However, the Bills talent is geared toward a 4-3 defense with the line of Marcell Dareus, Kyle Williams, Mario Williams and Mark Anderson.
