Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker appears to have avoided serious damage to his hip. He went in for a second MRI on Tuesday, and the team confirmed in a statement that he has a sprained hip. Surgery will not be required, although he will need a few weeks of rest and rehab. From the team's official website:

“We received reassuring reports from the second MRI today and they confirmed that there was no major damage to Jake Locker’s hip joint - it is classified as a sprained hip. The area will need time to heal and strengthen, but he won’t require surgery and he has already begun a rehab routine for both his hip and knee. We certainly would expect him to miss a few weeks, but we are encouraged by the news today.”

Locker was carted off the field in Sunday's win over the New York Jets with the injury. He's expected to miss 4-6 weeks, but may not have to be placed on injured reserve. NFL.com's Albert Breer expects Locker to miss the next three games and be back after the team's Week 8 bye.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start for Tennessee while Locker recovers. The Titans have no quarterbacks behind him, although they could promote Rusty Smith off the practice squad or sign a veteran or two. They worked out David Carr and John Skelton on Tuesday.
