Steelers sign S Will Allen, according to report

Having been cut by the Cowboys earlier this week, Allen makes a return to Pittsburgh.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

After being released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week, veteran safety Will Allen has found a new home...or rather, an old one.

Allen has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, rejoining a team he spent three seasons with, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

A 10-year vet, Allen spent the 2010-12 seasons with the Steelers. He joined the Cowboys over the offseason and began the season as the starting strong safety before falling down the depth chart.

Allen played in all but two of the Steelers’ games during his three-year stay. His most productive season came in 2012, when he accumulated 34 tackles, three passes defensed and a forced fumble.

He recorded his first interception since 2005 in the Cowboys' Week 1 win over the Giants, but was leapfrogged at his starting position by rookie J.J. Wilcox following Week 2.

At 0-4, the Steelers are hoping the signing of the veteran defender can shake up a team desperate for wins.
