Andrew Luck joins company involved with concussion technology

Despite having no known history with concussion issues, Luck has joined the advisory board of MC10, a company based out of Cambridge, Mass., according to TIME. MC10 is attempting to further knowledge related to concussions and general head trauma.

MC10 has created a skullcap, the Reebok Checklight, which can be worn underneath a helmet and reads the amount of head trauma a player is taking from play to play.

If the cap begins to light up with a yellow color, that means the player is suffering moderate trauma. If the color turns red, the trauma has become severe and the athlete should immediately be removed.

Luck, seeing an opportunity to get involved with the important issue, thinks this product could be a game-changer. As the quarterback says in the piece:

“Head trauma is incredibly important, not only for NFL and college, but you think about Pop Warner and pee-wee kids. I remember my dad coaching me in the fifth grade, and the first thing you learned was how to tackle properly. How to do it in the correct and safe way. And it was great, but there was no way to real-time monitor how much force or trauma your head is feeling on a certain play. The Checklight provides a real-time indicator of things. That’s a great starting point to begin your concussion symptom check.”

The Reebok Checklight is being sold at stores for $150.
