Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson lost his 2-year-old son on Friday, after the child was admitted to a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital earlier in the week. Peterson's son was the victim of a beating allegedly given by the man dating the boy's mother. Peterson plans to play on Sunday and has asked for as much privacy as possible in the matter. Chicago Bears linebacker D.J. Williams is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Williams was brought in to fill the void left by Brian Urlacher, at least until rookie second-round pick Jon Bostic was ready. Now, Bostic will be thrust into the starting role. It's a tough break for Williams, who doesn't seem to have many seasons left.

Williams was penalized for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess, while Washington was fined for roughing the passer when he hit Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
