Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen said that his recovery time for hip surgery is between three and four months, according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. Allen, a second-year player coming off a big season as a rookie, was injured in the team's Week 1 matchup against the Oakland Raiders, and has not played in a game since.

The team placed Allen on season-ending injured reserve in September after he underwent surgery on the hip. Allen was initially hoping that the injury would heal on its own, which is why he was initially listed as “day-to-day” after the injury, but the decision to pursue surgery was reached quickly.
Allen, a third-round pick in 2012, caught 45 passes for 521 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie last season. Allen was expected to play behind Coby Fleener, a second-round draft pick the same year, but Fleener only managed 26 receptions for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
This season, Fleener has been playing well, with 14 receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns. If he picks it up and ends up finishing with a strong season, he should start ahead of Allen next season, though the two will surely be a strong duo regardless provided Allen can return healthy.
